5 reasons to choose Cyprus for your next family holiday

1st November 2024

Already looking at holiday destinations for 2025? Here’s why Cyprus should be at the top of your list for an unforgettable family holiday.

  1. Temperate climate

Positioned in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Türkiye, Cyprus has a relatively warm climate year-round with hot summers, mild winters and plenty of sunshine. This makes it a great destination for summer beach holidays and out-of-season escapes at half-term or over Christmas when the island is quieter.

There is a chance of rain in spring and autumn, but temperatures are still high enough for beach relaxation if that’s how you like to spend your time. In the winter, the average is 10ºC which is pleasant for hiking and cycling or exploring the cultural attractions.

  1. Affordability

Ranking in the top ten destinations for holiday value for money in the 2024 Post Office Worldwide Holiday Costs Barometer, Cyprus is an incredible destination that won’t break the bank. You’ll find family-friendly resorts with ample entertainment and essential facilities or private coastal villas at great prices, and your spending money will go further while you’re away.

  1. Diverse attractions

With a wealth of diverse attractions, holidays to Cyprus promise fun for all ages whether you enjoy history, adventure, wildlife or culinary experiences. Children can find heritage sites dull, but the rich decoration of the UNESCO-listed Painted Churches in Troödos is sure to awe!

Coastal Paphos is a great base for your holiday. There is an archaeological park with well-preserved Roman mosaics, a catacomb and a necropolis known as Tafoi ton Vasileon, ‘Tombs of the Kings’. You can watch turtles with guides along the shoreline, enjoy the beautiful beaches and have fun at the modern attractions including Paphos Aphrodite Waterpark.

  1. Outdoor activities

Keep your holiday cheap and cheerful and no less exciting by prioritising the amazing outdoor activities on offer in Cyprus. You can go on gentle hikes following the mythical Aphrodite Trail through lush woodland and along coastal cliffs or grab bikes to cover more distance. Sea-based activities are rewarding too, from exhilarating water sports to sailing to glowing sea caves.

If you and your children are qualified to dive, make sure to include some underwater exploration too. There are a whopping 60 dive sites around Cyprus ranging from wrecks to reefs. One of the top spots is Cyclops in Konnos Bay, a half-submerged grotto with seagrass concealing a host of marine life including octopus, moray eels, sea urchins, starfish, lionfish, turtles and more.

  1. Warm hospitality

Finally, everywhere you go in Cyprus you’ll be greeted with warm hospitality. The friendly service makes exploring the island with kids simple, and hotels and restaurants are ready to cater to all palettes and culinary requirements so everyone will come home happy.
